Updating Your Hawk ID Password in UI Wireless Configurations

Note: These instructions are only for updating your Hawk ID password that has been saved by your wireless networking software. Updating your Hawk ID password in any of these individual applications will not change your Hawk ID password for any other services or applications. To change your Hawk ID password, see the Hawk ID web site.

Note: For security reasons, the ITS Help Desk recommends that you do not save your Hawk ID password in the UI Wireless configuration at all. This prevents unauthorized users from connecting to the network using your credentials. In addition, you won't have to follow this procedure to update your password whenever it changes.

To remove or update your saved Hawk ID password in the Apple Airport configuration:

  1. On the Airport menu, choose Open Internet Connect.

    Open Internet Connect

  2. Select the 802.1X icon and choose Edit Configurations from the Configurations drop-down list.

    Edit Configurations

  3. Make sure the UI-Wireless-WPA2 configuration is displayed and delete the entry in the Password field. This will prompt you for your Hawk ID and password each time you connect to the UI Wireless network. (Recommended)

If you wish to save your Hawk ID password in the configuration, update the Password field with your new Hawk ID password. (This option is not recommended by the ITS Help Desk.)

Windows Wireless Client

Windows XP

Using the Windows Wireless Client stores your user credentials (Hawk ID and password) in the system registry. When your Hawk ID password changes, a change to the registry will be required to access the UI Wireless network. For this reason, the ITS Help Desk does not recommend using the Windows Wireless Client for accessing the UI Wireless network. If you are using the Windows Wireless Client to connect to the UI Wireless network, see the instructions for Changing the Registry Key that Contains Your Old Password.

Windows Vista

  1. Open the Manage Wireless Networks window.
  2. Left click UI-Wireless-WPA2 to select it and then right click UI-Wireless-WPA2 to select Properties from the dropdown menu.

    Properties

  3. Select the Security Tab and remove the check from the box next to “Cache user information for subsequent connections to this network”. The next time you connect to UI Wireless you will be prompted for your Hawk ID and password.  Leave the domain blank.  Replace the check if you  want Windows Wireless to save your password again.
