Setting up your Palm TX for UI Wireless

Note: UI Wireless access for Palm devices is available for the Palm TX with Enterprise Security Update (ESU) installed. Previous Palm devices became incompatible with the University wireless network on August 2, 2005, due to lack of security provisions.

Connecting the Palm TX to UI Wireless

Things you need before starting:

1. Fully charged Palm TX
2. Palm Enterprise Security Update (ESU). The Palm ESU can be purchased for the Palm TX at http://www.palm.com/us/software/esu/index.html. Included with your purchase will be:
1. TX Enterprise Security Update Instructions (can also be downloaded here: http://www.palm.com/us/support/downloads/tx/txESUread_me.doc).
2. Palm WiFi Profile Wizard
3. SD card for the Palm TX (32 MB or larger)
4. Thawte Premium Server CA Certificate (can be found here: http://www.thawte.com/roots/index.html)
1. Sign in and download the certificates to a location that you can find on your computer.
2. The zipped file contains many certificates. You only need Thawte Premium Server CA certificate (you will need to unzip the file and find ThwatePremiumServerCA.cer).

Use the TX Enterprise Security Instructions document that came with the Palm Enterprise Security Update to install the ESU on your Palm TX.

Follow steps 1 and 2 of the TX Enterprise Security Instructions that came with the ESU download to install the ESU update and restore your personal data.

Step 3, Connecting to Secure Wi-Fi Networks, requires information that is unique to the UI Wireless Network. Use the TX Enterprise Security Instructions document in conjunction with the information below.

Step 3.1 - Generate the Profile Database

The first part of step 3 of the TX Enterprise Security Instructions, generate the profile database, includes some UI Wireless specific information. The step will be done on your computer using the Palm Wi-Fi Profile Wizard.

After opening the Palm Wi-Fi Profile Wizard you will need to add the Thawte Premium Server CA Certificate (ThwatePremiumServerCA.cer) that you downloaded by clicking the Add button and browsing to the location that the certificate is stored.

Then use the following configuration details for the UI Wireless network:
- Profile Name: UI-Wireless-WPA2
- Authentication Protocol: EAP-PEAP
- Tunneled Authentication Protocol: MSCHAPv2
- Username: your Hawk ID
- Password: your Hawk ID password

Step 3.2 - Transfer and Install Profile Database

Follow the second part of step 3 of the TX Enterprise Security Instructions to transfer and install the profile database to your handheld. This can be done by synchronizing or using an SD card. See the TX Enterprise Security Instructions that came with your ESU download for step-by-step instructions.

Step 3.3 - Configure Your Handheld and Connect

The final part of step 3 of the TX Enterprise Security Instructions, configure the handheld and connect, also requires some specific UI Wireless information. This step will be done on your Palm handheld. You must be in a UI Wireless hotspot to test if the connection works.
- SSID: UI-Wireless-WPA2
- Security: Enterprise
- Mode: WPA2
- Encryption: EAP-PEAP (MSCHAPv2)
- Profile: UI-Wireless-WPA2
