Intel PROSet Active Directory Configuration WPA2
Intel PROSet now offers a pre-logon feature that allows network drives to be mapped while logging into AD with a laptop. The pre-logon capabilities are not included in the typical installation so either a custom installation or a modified installation is required. The instructions below are for the modified installation and include the individual creating their own profile.
Hardware requirements: Intel 2200bg wireless card or newer
Software requirements: Intel PROSet 11
To configure the Intel PROSet client for Active Directory authentication:
Note: You must be logged on with Administrator rights to the computer in order to make the configuration changes noted below. After the profile is created and set, any user with a University Active Directory account and UI Wireless rights will be able to access the network using the machine.

Access the Intel PROSet Wireless/Installer from Windows Add or Remove Programs. (Go to Start | Control Panel | Add or Remove Programs and click the Change/Remove button.)

On the Intel PROSet Wireless/Installer window, select Modify and click Next.

From the drop-down menus next to the Pre-logon Connect and Administrator Toolkit items, select Install this feature and any selected sub-features and click Modify.

When the component modifications are complete, click OK.

Click Yes to reboot your computer.

After your system reboots, open Intel PROSet (Start | All Programs | Intel PROSet Wireless) and select Tools | Administrator Tool…

Create a password for the administrator tool, confirm the password, and click OK.

On the Open Administrator Package window, select the Operating System that you will be creating the profile for and click OK.

Check the Include Profiles in this package item, select the Pre-logon/Common tab, and click Add.

Configure the General Settings for the UI Wireless network and click Next:
- Profile Name: UI-Wireless-WPA2
- Wireless Network Name (SSID): UI-Wireless-WPA2
- DO NOT check Persistent: Active when no users are logged on.

Configure the Security Settings (Step 1 of 2) and click Next:
- Select Enterprise Security
- Network Authentication:WPA2 - Enterprise
- Data Encryption: AES-CCMP
- Check the box next to Enable 802.1x
- Authentication Type: PEAP
- Authentication Protocol: MS-CHAP-V2
- User Credentials: Use Windows logon
- Roaming Identity: enter your actual Hawk ID

Configure the Security Settings (step 2 of 2) and click OK:
- Check Validate Server Certificate
- Certificate Issuer: Thawte Premium Server CA
- Check Specify Server or Certificate Name
- Server or Certificate Name: net-auth-1.its.uiowa.edu
- Select Server name must match the specified entry exactly

On the Administrator Tool – New Package window, click Close.

Click Yes to the system message asking if you would like to save changes.

In the Save As box, enter uiwireless in the File name entry field and click Save.

Click the Finished button in the Package Saved window.

In the Package Saved window select Apply this package to this computer and click OK.
- Save and close any applications you have open, then logout of your Windows session. When you next log into Windows, the IntelPROSet login process will appear while you are connecting to the network. You can verify the Active Directory authentication by viewing your network drives through My Computer.
