Configuring AEGIS to Access an Open (Non-Encrypted) Wireless Network

An open network is not encrypted and no password is required to join the network. In these examples, the UI Wireless network is already configured.

  1. Start by launching the AEGIS client, by clicking on Start then Programs then Meetinghouse then AEGIS Client then AEGIS Client. You should get a screen similar to the one below. Double click on your wireless card.

    Select Wireless Card

  2. After double clicking your wireless card, the screen below should appear. This screen shows the available networks in the top section and displays your configured networks in the bottom section. Not all networks will appear because some are not configured to broadcast their presence. The configured networks in the bottom half are ordered in the order of preference. If more than one configured network is available, AEGIS will attempt to connect to the network that is highest in the order.

Select your network in the top window and click on Move to Configured. Then select your network in the bottom window and click on Properties.

    Wireless Networks Tab

  3. Make sure the network name is correct and check Do Active Scan. In order for AEGIS to work correctly, you must select an authentication profile. Check Desktop and pick UI-Wireless-WEP out of the list. Click the WEP Management tab.

    Profile Informaiton Tab

  4. Uncheck all three options on this screen and click OK.

    WEP Management Tab

  5. Click the OK button and you should now be back at the main AEGIS screen. Click the refresh button Refresh Button and you should be connected.

Note: The client may incorrectly report the status of the connection. The connection information column may say "started" or "obtaining IP address" when, in fact, you are actually connected. Try opening a web page just to confirm your connection.
