Configuring the AEGIS Client for UI Wireless Access
These instructions are intended for those who already have the AEGIS client software installed on their machines. If you do not have AEGIS already installed, see the instructions for Installing the AEGIS Client. The software installer contains all of the settings needed to access our network; all you need to do is download and run the installer. As an alternative to reconfiguring the AEGIS software as detailed below, you can remove your current AEGIS installation and reinstall the software. Before you begin, make sure your wireless card is inserted and that the drivers are properly installed.
To configure the AEGIS client software for UI Wireless access :
-
Open the AEGIS Client software. To start AEGIS, double click the oval icon in your task bar (in the bottom right hand corner of your screen).
-
In the AEGIS Client window double click your wireless card.
-
On the Port Configuration window, select UI-Wireless-WEP in the Wireless networks near you section and click the Move to Configured button.
Note: If a UI Wireless profile exists in the Configured network profiles section of the window, highlight it and click the Remove button to delete it.
-
In the Configured network profiles section, select UI-Wireless-WEP and click the Properties button.
-
On the Network Profile window, make sure the Network Name is UI-Wireless-WEP. Check the Desktop box in the Authentication Profiles section, and click the Open Profiles button.
-
On the Authentication Profiles - DESKTOP window, click the Add button.
Note: When converting from the old configuration to the new configuration, if the old UI Wireless profile is present in the list, you can select the profile and click the Delete button to remove it.
-
In the Authentication Profile -- Add window, enter UI-Wireless-WEP for the Profile name and click OK.
-
In the next Authentication Profiles - Desktop window, select PEAP for the Authentication type. Make sure that EAP-MACHAP v2 is selected for the Tunneled Protocol. Select the Request credentials at authentication time radio button, and select the Server identity tab.
-
On the Server identity tab, remove the check from the Do not validate server certificate chain box.
In the Certificate issuer must be list, select Thawte Premium Server CA from the drop-down menu.
In the Server name must be field, enter net-auth-1.its.uiowa.edu.
Select the Server name must match exactly radio button, and click OK.
-
On the Network Profile window, make sure UI-Wireless-WEP is selected in the Authentication Profiles for the Desktop.
-
Click ok until you get to the AEGIS Client window. Then click the green arrow to start a connection.
-
AEGIS will now ask you to authenticate with your User name (Hawk ID) and password.
- Many computers contain an expired version of the Thawte Premium Server CA certificate that will cause you to lose your connection to the UI Wireless network, due to a conflict. Remove the expired certificate to avoid this conflict. The ITS Help Desk has provided a program to automatically remove the expired certificates for you.
- Click on the icon below to download the certificate removal program.
- Save the file to your desktop.
- Double-click the remcert.exe file on your desktop to run the expired certificate removal program.

See the Certificate Removal instructions for more information or if you need instructions for removing the certificate manually.
