Wireless Hot Spots

A wireless hot spot is a location where the wireless network is available. Buildings that are marked on the maps may have limited coverage. For example, only the first three floors of the Main Library are covered. Please see the notes on each building for detailed information.

Adler Journalism Building (AJB)
General coverage throughout the entire building.

Samuel L. Becker Communications Studies Building (BCSB)
Room 319 and adjacent space.

Biology Building (BB)
First floor classrooms/teaching lab areas, conference room 131, computer lab 169; computer classroom B20

Biology Building East (BBE)
1st floor atrium, classrooms/teaching labs; 401 conference room

Biological Sciences Library (BSL)
Available in all public areas in the building.

Blank Honors Center (BHC)
All public areas and most classrooms.

Burge Residence Hall (B)
Available in the front lobby, Carnival room, basement rec center, and house lounges.

Chemistry Building (CB)
Varying coverage in classrooms and lecture halls.

Continuing Education Facility (CEF)
Varying coverage in classrooms and lecture halls.

Communications Center (CC)
Room 301, 314, 308, and 305s.

Currier Residence Hall (C)
Available in the multipurpose room (MPR), North lounge, South foyer, Droll lounge, and quite study room.

Daum Residence Hall (D)
Rec room, TV room and house lounges.

Day House (DH)
Coverage available in the library.

English Philosophy Building (EPB)
Coverage in the entire building, including classrooms, conference rooms, and offices.

Gilmore Hall (GILH)
Third floor meeting rooms and room 6.

Hubbard Park
Cover outside of the Iowa Memorial Union throughout most of Hubbard Park. *Wireless coverage is tempoarily disabled due to flood damage

Iowa Advanced Technology Laboratories (IATL)
Open areas on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd floors.

Iowa Memorial Union (IMU)
Available in most common areas, conference rooms and lounges.

IMU Parking Ramp (IMUR)
Conference room

Jefferson Building (JB)
Available in the second floor lobby and room 603.

Jessup Hall (JH)
All classrooms and student common spaces,  rm B4D, rm 311, conference rooms b2a (B5), 4R, 101, 111.

Lindquist Center (LC)
Wireless service in LC is both in College of Education and ITS areas.

College of Education (Lindquist Center North)
Wireless service is available in many first and second floor classrooms, public areas of the Curriculum Library, much of the third and fourth floors, Jones Commons, and the Dean's suite in North Lindquist. College of Education faculty and students wishing to take advantage of wireless networking in these areas should contact Wayne Kintz.

ITS (Lindquist Center South)
Most of the ground floor and first floor of Lindquist Center South.

 

Macbride Hall (MH)
All classrooms and student common spaces, most labs, Museum Bird Hall learning area.

MacLean Hall (MLH)
Most classrooms and common areas.

Main Library (LIB)
General coverage.

Mayflower Residence Hall (M)
Available in the front lobby, common areas, multipurpose room (MPR), room 164, and the vending area.

North Hall (NH)
All classrooms and common spaces, space/place theater, fourth floor meeting rooms, Bill's Coffee Shop on third floor

Old Capitol
In the gift shop and surrounding area.

Pappajohn Business Building (PBB)
Coverage throughout the entire building.

Pentacrest Outside Area
Wireless service is available on the Pentacrest outdoor area mainly on the East and West sides. This is a large area and some locations may have better reception than other spots. There is little or no reception between the buildings of Macbride and Jessup Halls, and between MacLean and Schaeffer Halls.

Phillips Hall (PH)
Most classrooms and common areas.

Plaza Centre One (PCO)
Room 280.

Pomerantz Center (PC)
Coverage throughout the entire building.

Power Plant (PP)
Main conference room.

Schaeffer Hall (SH)
Coverage throughout the entire building.

Seamans Center for the Engineering (SC)
The College of Engineering maintains a separate wireless network in the Seamans Center. See the CoE Wireless Networking page for more information and setup instructions.

Seashore Hall (SSH)
Coverage is focused on the Psychology Library on the second floor.

Stanley Residence Hall (STAN)
3rd floor lounge and house lounges.

Theater Building
Available in common areas, classrooms, and theaters.

Trowbridge Hall (TH)
Room 136.

University Capital Centre (UCC)
International Programs, Information Technology Services, and ESL Program office areas and the UI Quick Care Clinic area. The Help Desk (second floor of the UCC ) is a good place to visit to test a laptop for proper configuration before use at another wireless location.

University Services Building (USB)
Most common areas and meeting rooms.

Van Allen (VAN)
Available in the Physics Library, room 618 and adjacent rooms, 208, 309, 310, 316, 350 and 619.
