Windows DVD Maker

With DVD burners becoming more standard, Microsoft has released its own program allowing you to burn data to a DVD. This program works in nearly the same way as their Windows XP CD Burning software does, allowing for addition of multiple files and file types to a single DVD.

Windows Sidebar

The Windows Sidebar allows a place for the new Windows Gadgets to reside. These gadgets are small programs that perform simple tasks such as post-it notes, an at-a-glance view of all contacts on your messenger, or even a game. Microsoft will maintain a website detailing how to develop your own gadgets and allowing you to download others.

Windows BackUp

Windows Backup allows for easy recovery of lost or changed files. It can automatically backup requested files at regular intervals and provides an easy to use interface to retrieve the older versions.

Windows Speech Recognition allows for any user with a microphone to enjoy the speed and ease of voice communication with the computer.

Windows Movie Maker

Movie Maker helps take multiple videos and put them together, even coupled with still photos. This allows the average user the capability to make high quality DVD's.

Windows Defender

Windows Defender is Microsoft's new anti-spyware and malware program. It runs like an antivirus program in the background of your computer, constantly scanning for known malware. Windows Defender will notify you if it finds any malicious software attempting to run on your system and give you the option to block it.

Although still in the Beta* stage it is planned to be ready for the release of Vista.

Windows Media Player 11

Windows Media Player 11 is a streamlined upgrade from Media Player 10. It has been redesigned for ease of use and simplicity. It will include a built-in music store called "Urge."
