SecureCRT Version 5.x License File Doesn't Install Correctly in Windows Vista

Due to the new User Account Control technology built into Windows Vista, SecureCRT's license file doesn't always get copied to the required directory correctly. Although we hope to have this issue fixed entirely in the future, the problem is easy enough to correct with the following workaround:

  1. Open the Start Menu and choose Computer
  2. Double-click on Local Disk C:
  3. Locate the directory called Temp and double-click on it
  4. Inside, you will find a folder called scrt52x where X will change depending on the version of SecureCRT you are trying to install, double-click on this folder
  5. Inside you will find a file called SecureCRT.LIC, this is the license file that we need to move. Right-click on it and choose Copy
  6. Navigate back up to the folder called Temp and then back to the root of your Local Disk C:
  7. Double-click on the folder called Program Files
  8. Double-click on the folder called SecureCRT
  9. Click on the Organize button in the left corner of the Explorer window and choose Paste
  10. Close the window and relaunch SecureCRT - the program will now be licensed
