Run As Administrator in Windows Vista
Various pieces of software will not install or run properly in Windows Vista because of the new User Account Control security architecture. To overcome this problem, you simply have to choose to run the installer or piece of software as an administrator. Doing so requires, obviously, Administrator credentials on the computer you are working on. To access this feature, simply follow the easy steps below:
- Right click on the icon for the installer package or software (in this case, we're using the Eudora 7.1 installer package available from the ITS Software Services Download Site) and choose Run As Administrator.

- After the computer processes this request, you will be prompted by the User Account Control. If you are a limited user on the computer, at this point you will need to type in administrator credentials; however, if you are already an administrator, you will simply need to click Continue to allow the installer/software to continue.
- In the case of the Eudora 7.1 installer, after passing through the User Account Control prompts, the installation continues as normal and the software operates without issue in Windows Vista (when you launch Eudora 7.1 from your start menu or from a shortcut icon on your desktop in Windows Vista you will not need to use Run As Administrator).
