Installing Norton Antivirus for OS X
Note: Before installing Norton AntiVirus, make sure that you do not have any other virus programs installed. To check this, simply go to the Applications folder. If you have Virex go here for removal instructions.
- Extract the compressed file (navm9.0.2.sit, for example) to your desktop (using Stuffit Expander).
- Double-click on the Norton AntiVirus Installer folder.
- Click Continue to begin the installation process and progress through the documentation.
- Click Agree to accept the license agreement.
- Click Continue to accept the destination.
- Click Upgrade to perform a basic install.
- Type your administrator name and password and click OK.
- If you are connected to the Internet, click OK to update the virus definitions.
- After the installation completes, click Restart to restart your computer
Updating Norton AntiVirus Definitions for Mac OS X
To update Norton Anti-Virus, choose the appropriate option below:
- Network Connection (i.e. Campus Network, cable modem, DSL)
- Modem Connection (i.e. UI Remote Access, AOL, etc)
- Once you have logged back in, Choose Go>Applications, double-click the Norton Antivirus icon.

- Choose Update Now to run Liveupdate.

- Choose Update Everything Now.
- Enter your administrator password and click OK.
- Click OK and restart if necessary.
- Once you have logged back in, Choose Go>Applications, double-click the Norton AntiVirus icon.

- Click on Continue without Updating.

- Whenever you want to update your virus definition or check for program updates (you should do this weekly at least), open Norton AntiVirus and click the LiveUpdate option.

- Choose Update Everything.
- Enter your administrator password and click OK.
- Click OK again and restart if necessary.
If you would like to test the installation, you can use the EICAR test. This will test your antivirus software without putting your machine at risk
