Troubleshooting Citrix File Security
This article applys to the following Citrix/Virtual Desktop clients:
Issue
The first time the Virtual Desktop (Citrix) client for Windows is launched, it will ask you for permission to map drives in the Virtual Desktop session to the local hard drives. (That is, the drives in the computer which you are using to connect to Virtual Desktop.)

If you select the radio buttom next to "Never ask me again", the setting that you define above in the "What access should be allowed" section will be in effect and you will not get another chance to change the setting.
Solution
To get this dialogue to appear again, do the following:
- Disconnect all Virtual Desktop sessions.
- Delete the file webica.ini according to which version of the ICA client you are running:
- Versions prior to 10.1: C:\Windows\webica.ini.
- Version 10.1 and newer: C:\Document and Settings\<user name>\Application Data\ICAClient\webica.ini.
- When you try to connect again, the webica.ini file will be recreated and the above dialogue window will appear again. You will then be able to grant Full Access to your local drives so they are accessible in Virtual Desktop sessions. The setting is global for all user profiles on the computer.
Alternately, you may edit the webica.ini file directly to grant full access:
- Disconnect all Virtual Desktop sessions.
- Open webica.ini in Notepad. (For the location of webica.ini according to which version of the client you are running, see step 2 above.) The contents of this file will appear as:
[Access]
GlobalSecurityAccess = {value}
The {value} will depend on what access has been granted. The values that correspond to each security level are listed below:
No access = 403
Read access = 404
Full access = 405
- To grant Full access, simply change the line "GlobalSecurityAccess = 403" to "GlobalSecurityAccess = 405" and Save the file.
- When you reconnect, your local drives will be mapped in the Virtual Desktop session.
