How to run the Outlook Time Zone Update Tool via Virtual Desktop
Overview
In August of 2005, the United States Congress passed the Energy Policy Act. The Energy Policy Act changes the start dates and the end dates of daylight saving time (DST). When this law goes into effect in 2007, DST will start three weeks earlier on March 11, 2007 and end one week later on November 4, 2007. For more information on these changes and how to update your computer, please see http://helpdesk.its.uiowa.edu/articles/dstchanges.html
If you access Microsoft Outlook via the Virtual Desktop service, you will need to run a simple tool that will update your exchange account so that these changes to the Daylight Savings Time will occur on the appropriate dates. This utility is called the Outlook Time Zone Update Tool and is available via Virtual Desktop.
To run the tool so that future appointments will be scheduled appropriately, according to the Daylight Savings Time changes, please follow the instructions below.
Instructions
Note: For this tool to work, you will need to have previously logged into Outlook via Virtual Desktop so there is an Exchange account profile for you on the server. If you haven't done this recently, simply log into Microsoft Outlook in the Virtual Desktop Web Interface. Once you've done this, you may then use this tool to update your Exchange account.
- Open the Virtual Desktop Web Interface and log in using your HawkID.
- After login, the top-most folder in the “Applications” pane will contain an icon called the “Outlook Time Zone Update Tool”. Click on this icon to start a connection to the tool.
- When the session starts, you will be presented with this window. The tool should find your Outlook mailbox configuration on the server, according to the account you are using. Confirm that it has found the correct Exchange account and that the Central time zone appears in the second field. Click OK.
NOTE: If you have already run the tool or if you don't have any applicable appointments, you will see this window. Click OK to close the tool.
- If the tool finds appointments that need to be corrected, you will see the following window. Click OK to proceed.
- When the tool is finished, you will see this window confirming that the appropriate changes have been made. Click OK to finish and close the tool.
