Welcome to the University of Iowa Information Technology Services (ITS) site for incoming students. This page outlines some of the services available to new students at the University of Iowa, including a resource for answers to many of the questions you may have about technology on campus and how you can take advantage of discounted computer prices and free or significantly discounted software.

ITS Technology Survival Guide

As a student at the University of Iowa, you will have many opportunities, and in some instances be required, to use technology as part of your studies. Do you need to bring your own computer to campus? How can you connect to the Internet? What about security from computer viruses? Will you have your own e-mail address through the University?

ITS Computer Demo Center

The University of Iowa has negotiated significantly discounted pricing on desktop and laptop computers available to all University faculty, staff, and students, including incoming students. See the ITS Demo Center online for available models, specifications, and ordering instructions.

You can also visit the Computer Demo Center in person to view the models on display, have your questions about a computer purchase answered, or get assistance with the ordering process. The Computer Demo Center is located at the ITS Help Desk on the second floor of the University Capitol Centre (see map). The contact number for the Demo Center is 384-HELP (4357).

ITS Software Central

The University of Iowa has site licensed several software applications for use by University of Iowa students at no additional cost. Furthermore, educational discounts apply to many applications that are available for purchase. For example, the University has a Microsoft Campus Agreement that makes several of Microsoft’s products, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, etc. available at significantly discounted prices (many are under $10).
