Windows NT 4.0 Setup for Remote Access

To setup your Remote Access on Windows NT 4.0, please follow the directions below:

1. Open the My Computer icon by double-clicking on it.

2. Open up Dial-Up Networking by double-clicking the Dial-Up Networking icon in the My Computer Window.

3. In the "Dial-Up Networking" dialog box, click on the New button.

Note: If there are no dial-up networking connections, instead of receiving the dialog box shown in Step 3, the customer may see a dialog box indicating "The phonebook is empty. Press OK to add an entry." Press OK will take you to Step 4 (skipping Step 3).

4. On the "New Phonebook Entry" dialog box with the Basic tab selected, perform the following steps:

Note: Customers are responsible for all charges incurred through the phone company.  Please check with your local phone company to make sure that the number you are using to connect to remote access will not include additional long distance or local usage charges.  Customers are responsible for all charges.

5. On the "New Phonebook Entry" dialog box with the Server tab selected, perform the following steps:

6. On the "TCP/IP Settings" dialog box, perform the following steps:

7. On the "New Phonebook Entry" dialog box with the Script tab selected, perform the following steps:

8. On the "Before Dialing Script" dialog box, make sure the None is selected. Then click OK.

9. On the "New Phonebook Entry" dialog box with the Security tab selected, make sure that the Authentication and encryption policy is set to "Accept any authentication including clear text." Then click the OK button.

10. At this point you should be back to the "Dial-Up Networking" dialog box. Click the Dial button to make a connection.

11. A "Connect to the University of Iowa Remote Access" dialog box should appear asking for your username and password. These are based on your Hawk ID.  Then click the Connect Button.

The User name is hawkid@ui

For example, if Jane Doe has jdoe as her HawkID, she types jdoe@ui as her remote access user name.  The Password is your Hawk ID password, as used in the ITCs.
