What are NIC Drivers?

NIC stands for Network Interface Card, or the piece of hardware that allows your computer to connect to a high speed network.  A NIC normally plugs into PCI slots inside your computer, or possibly into the small PCMCIA slot on your laptop.  NIC Drivers are small pieces of software the tell your computer how to use the card.  Sometimes your operating system will automatically detect the NIC and provide drivers.  Otherwise, you have to provide the drivers yourself.  Check for a floppy disk or CD that came with the card to have drivers, but if you don't have that, look for them on the internet using some of the links to the left.

Where can I get drivers?

Often the best place to get device drivers is from the company that manufacturers the device you are using.  The company's website is almost always the most current place to find drivers for a particular device.  Listed below are some of the more popular network card manufacturer's and links to their driver downloads:
