  9. Enter the URL for MyFiles Premium to access the Enterprise shared file space. The URL for MyFiles Premium is https://myfiles.uiowa.edu/shared/<dept>.

In place of <dept>, you should put your departmental name or abbreviation (do not include the brackets).

    For example:
For departments in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences use: https://myfiles.uiowa.edu/shared/CLAS.
For the College of Nursing use: https://myfiles.uiowa.edu/shared/CON.
    For Admissions use: https://myfiles.uiowa.edu/shared/Admissions.
    For ITS use: https://myfiles.uiowa.edu/shared/ITS.

If you are unsure of what name or abbreviation to use for your department, contact your departmental IT support person or the ITS Help Desk.

  10. Enter your path in the box labeled Internet or network address and click Next.

Note: This may take a few minutes depending on your network speed.

  11. You will be prompted to enter your user name and password. In the box labeled User name, type your domain\Hawk ID (e.g. Iowa\jdoe), Enter your Hawk ID password in the box labeled Password.

    Note:
ITS recommends that you do NOT check the Remember my password box. Doing so has the potential to give access to your student files to anyone who has access to the computer on which you are creating the web folder.

Click OK to authenticate and create the web folder.

  12. Give a name to the web folder you are creating. In this example, the folder is named shared on myfiles.uiowa.edu. Type the name you want to give to the folder in the Type a name for this network place box and click Next. You can change the name later if desired.

    Add Network Places Wizard 4

  13. Click Finish once your folder is set up correctly. If you want to see the contents of your folder after completing this wizard, leave the box labeled Open this network place when I click Finish marked, otherwise clear this box before clicking Finish.

    Add Network Places Wizard 5

  14. After correctly entering your information from the previous step, you will see a series of folders. You can now browse to directories and files to which you have access. For many, these folders are the same as your mapped drives on your University computer (H:, L:, U:, etc.). You will need to browse to the correct folder to see your files.

For example, if you connected to https://myfiles.uiowa.edu/shared/ITS, click on the Shared folder and you will be able to view the shared folders you have access to.

Note: These are just two examples of what you will see after entering your information. The folders that appear will vary depending on your department and your access rights.

In the future, if you want to open your web folder, simply open My Network Places as described earlier and double-click on the folder you created. To change the name of the folder, simply right-click on it, choose Rename, and enter the new name as you would with any other Windows folder.

Please Note: You may want to delete your connection to the Network Place you created using the steps above if you are on a public machine.
