MyFiles Premium for Students
Windows XP Access
On your desktop, double-click the My Network Places icon or click Start | My Network Places.
Note: If you do not have My Network Places on your Start menu or are using the Classic Start menu, right-click on the Start menu button and choose Properties. Make sure the Start menu option is selected and click the Customize button. On the Advanced tab, make sure My Network Places is checked in the Start menu items list.-
Select Add a network place from Network Tasks or double-click the Add a network place icon. This will start the Add Network Place wizard.
-
Click Next to set up the connection to your MyFiles Web folder.
-
Select Choose another network location and click Next.
-
Enter the URL for MyFiles Premium to access your personal SAFE space. The URL for MyFiles Premium uses the format shown below, replacing <xx> with the first two characters of your Hawk ID and <hawkid> with your full Hawk ID.
-
Enter your path in the box labeled Internet or network address and click Next.
-
You will be prompted to enter your user name and password. In the box labeled User name, type your domain\Hawk ID (e.g. Iowa\jdoe), Enter your Hawk ID password in the box labeled Password.
Note: ITS recommends that you do NOT check the Remember my password box. Doing so has the potential to give access to your student files to anyone who has access to the computer on which you are creating the web folder.
Click OK to authenticate and create the web folder. -
Give a name to the web folder you are creating. In this example, the folder will be named MyFiles. Type the name you want to give to the folder in the Type a name for this network place box and click Next. You can change the name later if desired.
-
Click Finish once your folder is set up correctly. If you want to see the contents of your folder after completing this wizard, leave the box labeled Open this network place when I click Finish marked, otherwise clear this box before clicking Finish.

https://myfiles.uiowa.edu/students/<xx>/<hawkid>
For example:
| Hawk ID | Network Path |
| herky | https://myfiles.uiowa.edu/students/he/herky |
| juser | https://myfiles.uiowa.edu/students/ju/juser |

Note: If you indicated that you wanted to open your folder upon completion of the wizard, your folder will appear. Note that the address box contains the path to your folder. Your folder may or may not contain any files, depending on whether you have ever used it before (for instance from the H: drive mapping in an ITC). You can now store files in this folder and they will be available to you via this Web folder and from your H: drive in the ITCs.
To open your web folder in the future, simply open My Network Places as described earlier and double-click on the folder you created. To change the name of the folder, simply right-click on it, choose Rename, and enter the new name as you would with any other Windows folder.
Please Note: You may want to delete your connection to the Network Place you created using the steps above if you are on a public machine.
