When using Office 2003 applications, can I save files in the Office 2007 format?
Yes. The Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats allows any user with at least Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 to save as the supported formats new to Office Word 2007, Office Excel 2007, and Office PowerPoint 2007.
Can I open Office 2007 files in Office 2003?
Yes. The Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats allows Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint 2000, XP, or 2003 to open the supported formats new to Office Word 2007, Office Excel 2007, and Office PowerPoint 2007.
Does the Microsoft Office system require Windows Vista in order to run?
No. The Microsoft Office system is designed to run on both Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 or later and Windows Vista.
What are the Office 2007 System Requirements?
When upgrading from Microsoft Office 2003 to the 2007 release you should not need to upgrade your hardware, although you may need to upgrade to a supported operating system. When upgrading from Microsoft Office 2000 or Office XP to the 2007 release you will need to ensure that your hardware and operating system meet the minimum 2007 Microsoft Office system requirements.
We highly recommend you evaluate your computer before installing 2007 Microsoft Office system products to verify your computer meets or exceeds the minimum system requirements.
Note: The 2007 Microsoft Office system programs client is a 32-bit application and runs on a Windows 64-bit platform (Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 via WOW64.
Which applications will have the Microsoft Office Button and the Ribbon?
Office Access 2007, Office Excel 2007, Office PowerPoint 2007, and Office Word 2007 will have the new look. Specific parts of Office Outlook 2007, such as e-mail message authoring, will also use the new menus and toolbars.
Why is there a different file extension and format for Office 2007?
Microsoft developed the Office XML Formats to respond to customer requests for more rapid document creation from disparate data sources and to extend our commitment to industry-standard XML. By creating a new robust, yet compact, structure based on industry standards such as XML and ZIP, the new default file formats speed document creation while reducing the size of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files and improving data recovery in corrupted files.
