ITADmins Community Support Center
Why Organize a Community?
There are many new campus services that depend on Active Directory and its distributed authority model. ITADmins are key people in making this structure work and are critical to our enterprise success.
On March 10, 2004, the first of what is expected to be a continuing series of meetings for the administrators of Organizational Units (OUAs, now known as ITADmins) in the Iowa Active Directory domain was held. The audience also included members of the Campus IT Leaders, campus Novell administrators, ITS support staff, and service owners of directory-enabled services.
The focus of the first meeting was to bring the audiences together to begin building an ITADmin community. Reasons include:
- Need to expose expectations: Roles and expectations of ITADmins need to be documented, supported.
- Need to define what support, assistance, training, information this group needs.
- OU administration is a new experience – this can be a forum for sharing what we learn.
- The Iowa domain is a shared environment. This is a way to gain some face-to-face time with other ITADmins who have similar responsibilities.
Depending on staffing levels within the participating unit, administrative support may be delegated to departmental ITADmins or will be provided by enterprise service providers. Understanding the needs of this group will allow ITS to match its service offerings to the most pressing needs.
The ITADmins community has been asked to rank their priorities. Their responses will drive future meetings agendas, and will help us set priorities for development of resources for their support. The ITADmins community will shape the future of the Iowa domain.
You must be a known member of the community to view meeting materials and resources. For more information about this group, contact Chris-Pruess@uiowa.edu or Mark-Hale@uiowa.edu
