Faculty/Staff Services

Following is a listing of services ITS provides to University of Iowa faculty and staff. Most of these services can be accessed using your Hawk ID and Hawk ID password.

Audio Services ITS consultants are on hand to help you use digital audio and video media to enhance presentations, course materials, or research projects. Computer Purchase Program Faculty & staff can purchase computer equipment from Apple, Dell, Gateway, or Hewlett-Packard online at educational discounts. E-Mail ITS supports various e-mail desktop applications, including Outlook 2003, Outlook 2007, Eudora, and Entourage 2004. ICON (Iowa Courses ONline) ICON is an online course management system instructors can use to post content materials, collect assignments, host discussions, post grades, and conduct other course-related activities. Instructional Technology Centers The University has 25 lTCs (computer labs), with more than 1,000 computers as well as laser printers, scanners, DVD/CD-ROM drives/burners, and a wide range of software programs. IT Security ITS promotes secure information technology systems, services, and programs. Multimedia-Equipped Classrooms More than a hundred classrooms or auditoriums are equipped with multimedia technologies. Some buildings also have portable carts with a computer and projector. MyWeb MyWeb provides UI faculty and stafff free space for publishing individual work-related web sites.

Remote Access Remote Access is a dial-up Internet access service available to faculty and staff for a monthly fee of $5. SkillSoft SkillSoft provides free online access to almost 3,000 online courses. Books 24/7, available through the SkillSoft and Library web sites, provides online access to more than 9,000 unabridged books and manuals. Telephone Services ITS provides telephone services and support throughout the University's main and Oakdale campuses and University Housing. Services include call centers, long distance, repair, teleconferencing, and voice mail. Video Services ITS offers a variety of video-related services and support, including a campus cable TV system, the broadcast channel UITV, satellite services for video uplink and downlink, video conferencing, video streaming, and video technologies.   Wireless Networking Wireless Internet access is available in a number of campus buildings and locations. Xythos Xythos is a web-based utility that allows faculty and staff to easily upload and download files to share with users inside and outside the Unversity.
