Firewall Support Center
A firewall is similar to a security system which protects your computer from the outside world and others on your network. It filters incoming Internet traffic while allowing you (and those behind your firewall) to communicate with the Internet. The firewall can help protect your computer from unauthorized users accessing your system by only allowing requests you made to enter your computer.
A firewall is very important in securing your computer. It can help to prevent certain types of viruses from infecting your computer as well as prevent hackers from gaining access to your system.
ITS Help Desk Support Statement
The ITS Help Desk offers limited support for firewalls, including the information found within the Firewall Support Information pages. We offer support for OS X and Windows XP built-in firewalls, but we cannot answer questions on how to configure, install or troubleshoot 3rd party firewalls. The following pages are meant as a guide to help you understand how a firewall affects your Internet connection, as well as provide instructions, tips, and information about firewalls in general.
