Computer Buying Guide - RAM

RAM stands for Random Access Memory and is essentially a high-speed temporary storage location for the CPU. The memory assists with the processing of data and is one of the main components that determine the overall speed of a computer.

Stick of RAMMemory is measured in gigabytes (GB), and the more RAM you have, the better. 2GB of memory is the standard for modern systems, with 4GB becoming increasingly popular due to the current low cost of memory. Motherboard RAM Slots

RAM comes in sticks known as DIMMs (dual in-line memory modules). For future upgradeability, it is recommended that for 2GB of memory, purchase one 2GB stick instead of two 1GB sticks. This allows for an open slot for future expansion.
