Outages Syndication

The new ITS Help Desk web site is looking to help get the word out about outages on campus to help customers find out information without having to spend time calling into the Help Desk. The first part of this strategy are the outage announcements on the front page of the Help Desk home page. Now if there is an outage, you can go straight there and see if anything is down and get information on it by clicking on the name of the system that is down. You can also find out about past outages by clicking on the Outages link on the tool bar under the tabs.
In addition to being displayed on the web site, outages are also syndicated using the RSS news feed format. This will allow users who use an RSS reader to be prompted when there are new outages on campus. ITS does not support any specific RSS readers as there are a number of different styles of readers available. An extensive list of readers can be found at http://www.lights.com/weblogs/rss.html.
