The New ITS Help Desk Web Site
Welcome to the new ITS Help Desk web site. From the initial glance, you will notice major changes to the look and feel of the site. In addition to these cosmetic changes, some new features and helpful additions are being introduced with this site. For an overview of some of the new features, please read on.
Address
The ITS Help Desk now has an easier to remember address, http://helpdesk.its.uiowa.edu/. This new address is meant to be simpler to remember and to use. Also, many popular areas of the ITS Help Desk site have shorter addresses now, such as the Anti-Virus Center at http://helpdesk.its.uiowa.edu/virus/.
Navigation
The first major change you probably notice was the colorful tabs at the top of the site. Each page will have these tabs on it to help you navigate the site. These tabs will allow you to get to any of the major areas of the site with a single click. In addition, each tab has a subheading which lists major areas under that specific tab. All of these features are here to make it easier to find things on the site. If you have problems finding anything on the site that you had used on the previous site, you can go to the Site Map. Here you will find a listing of all of the pages on this site in a list, so you can search and find exactly what you want.
Outages
In an effort to get information out to customers faster, we have added information about outages on the front page of the site. You can see any planned outages for the future as well as if any systems are being affected at this time. You can also click the Outages link at the top and find out about past outages as well.
Security
With the emphasis on security in computers over the last year, we have introduced a security area for the ITS Help Desk web site. Here you can find information about ways to protect your computer, the latest virus alerts and other security tips. The Anti-Virus Center is also under the Security Center so you can find information about Symantec Anti-Virus software and more information about viruses on campus.
