8/15/05 - W32.Zotob.A Virus Alert
A new virus, W32.Zotob.A, has been detected that takes advantage of Microsoft vulnerabilities announced last week. The worm spreads via port 445, and a user can be infected without taking action. Windows computers that are fully patched and have a firewall turned on should not be vulnerable to this virus. See the ITS Security Center for more information on this virus and keeping your computer safe.
8/2/05 - Changes Made to UI Wireless
Changes were made to the UI Wireless service that require all previous users of the service to reconfigure their wireless software in order to access the network. More information and reconfiguration instructions can be found on the Wireless Support Center site.
7/22/05 – Changes to UI Wireless Planned for August 2nd
On Tuesday, August 2nd, ITS will be making changes to the UI Wireless service that will require all UI Wireless users to reconfigure their wireless software in order to access the network. The planned changes are necessary to improve the security and functionality of the UI Wireless service. More information can be found on the Wireless Support Center.
7/20/2005 - Symantec AntiVirus 10.0
A new version of Symantec AntiVirus for Windows, Corporate Edition version 10.0, is now available for download on the ITS Software Services site.
In addition to the latest virus protection, SAV version 10.0 incorporates enhanced protection from spyware and adware. As with previous versions of SAV available on the ITS Software Services site, ITS has customized version 10.0 to include:
- Uninstallation of previous versions of Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition
- Configured to update virus definitions daily
- Configured to scan the computer once a week
- On 2000/XP machines, limited users can run LiveUpdate
