9/6/2007 - ITS Microsoft Office 2007 Training Opportunities

Information Technology Services is now offering Microsoft Office 2007 classes. These classes are interactive-demo classes for the Office 2007 products. Classes are open to all University of Iowa faculty, staff, and students. ITS will be offering the classes at the University Capitol Centre (UCC) and for individual departments. 8/31/007 - Safety in Social Networking

Blogs and social networking sites such as Facebook and MySpace allow for the posting and publishing of personal information and/or photos that can come back to haunt you.  For example, it is becoming common for employers or investigators to search for information on current or potential employees by "Googling" them or seeking out and reading their blogs or Facebook sites for suspect or damaging information. Also, problems due to identity theft, web stalkers and Internet predators are serious issues that justifiably get a lot of press and attention. Keep yourself safe online by following these web best practices and Facebook security practices.

8/29/2007 - ITS Help Desk Labor Day Weekend Hours

The ITS Help Desk will be closed for telephone support for the Labor Day holiday weekend beginning Friday, August 31st at 5:00PM. The Help Desk will be open for walk-in support at the Main Library location from 1:00PM - 5:00PM on Saturday, September 1st and Sunday, September 2nd, as well as from 1:00PM - 9:00PM on Monday, September 3rd. Telephone and regular support hours will resume on Tuesday, September 4th.

8/20/2007 - Storm Worm Virus Spreading Through E-mail "Postcards"

A Trojan horse virus known as Storm Worm or Trojan.Peacomm is currently spreading over e-mail around the nation, including the University of Iowa campus. The virus relies on users to click on links in unsolicited e-mail, often posing as an electronic greeting card. See the ITS Security Center for more information about this virus and keeping your computer safe.

8/13/2007 - Special Help Desk Hours for ResNet Assistance

The ITS Help Desk will be providing on-site support for students in University Residence Halls on Monday, August 20th from 9AM - 2PM, Saturday, August 25th from 9AM - 7PM and Sunday, August 26th from 9AM - 5PM. The Help Desk will have tables set up in the lobbies of Burge, Hillcrest, and Mayflower residence halls. The Help Desk will also be available to assist with Hawk ID password and ResNet issues by telephone (384-HELP) during those times.
