UI Wireless - Planned Outage
Start Time: 7/22/2012 6:00:00 AM
End Time: 7/22/2012 1:00:00 PM
Description:
In order to conserve public IPv4 addresses, ITS will be migrating the UI Wireless Service to private address space and implementing Network Address Translation (NAT). This change will take place on Sunday, July 22nd 6:00 AM – 1:00 PM.
During the maintenance period, the wireless service will be unavailable campus-wide for periods of time while we perform the migration.
Although NAT is new to wireless users at the University of Iowa, it has been commonly used in many areas for a long while. Airports, hotels, Wi-Fi hotspots and even most home networks on cable modem or DSL usually use NAT to conserve IP space. It’s unlikely that any normal wireless activity will be different using NAT.
More information about the migration, including a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) can be found here: http://its.uiowa.edu/apps2/support/article/4009.
